ARTIST PROFILE

About Andrew Handrea

The aesthetic and socio-cultural interactions between humans and their built environment is the primary subject of Andrew Handrea's mostly monochromatic works. In some works, the artist explores these interactions in the project Corpus ex Structura by taking a voyeuristic stance, purely observing aesthetic juxtapositions and comparisons between the human form and built structures. In other works in this project, the artist connects these aesthetic interactions to socio-cultural phenomena involving humans and their built environment, namely gentrification, overdevelopment, and urban decay.

Aside from this main subject of humans versus architecture, Andrew Handrea explores the human form and architectural motifs in the rest of his portfolio through collaborative projects such as Phases with photographer Daniella Liguori and miscellaneous works. The artist is currently attending Vassar College in Poughkeepsie, New York where he continues to expand on these ideas and his body of work.
